As far as i know, Bermet wine is originally developed by cistercians in panonian region of Habsburg Monarchy. Nowadays, we have only two "original" Bermets, one in Sremski Karlovci, Serbia, and another in Samobor, Croatia. I never had a chance, so far, to drink Croatian variety. Small winemakers from Karlovci produce very fine dessert wine named Bermet. Main difference between them is not only mixture of herbs, but even more wine basis, which is sometimes very much different. Some producers use Merlot, other Frankovka, there is also Portugizer... I think that in some good Bermets we have significant percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon.
If you have chance, visit Sremski Karlovci. Wines, are very good, not only Bermet, but also Riesling and Chardonnay, and suprisingly good Cabernet.

I thought Bermet was from Samobor, Croatia? What's this about Serbia?

While I have opted to fill my barrels up all the way with potting soil, other gardeners might not want that expense. (I fill mine up to keep the wood in the barrel moist. When barrel wood dries out, the wood shrinks and the barrels can fall apart.) To ...
